- The Experience Engineering (XE) team at Red Hat is searching for an “Associate Software Maintenance Engineer” focused on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In this position, you’ll be responsible for working on important fixes for both userspace and kernel components in stable update streams. Your main goal will be to ensure that our solutions meet the highest standards for enterprise quality, performance, usability, and support.
- To excel in this role, attention to detail is crucial, especially in adhering to secure coding standards, as you’ll be dealing with stable streams. You’ll be working on older streams with their own unique characteristics, requiring you to troubleshoot potential problems. What you will do :
- Work on updating Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and take responsibility for these updates in stable streams.
- Backport specific security and other bug fixes into the stable release streams and assist in tracking patches from the original source.
- Configure or backport tests, set up the testing environment, execute tests, and confirm that fixes are effective.
- Contribute to the development of tests and the test framework.
- Assist in the development and integration of the testing environment.
- Identify and troubleshoot potential issues, collaborating with the engineering team to resolve them.
- Work closely with various teams, including product engineering, quality engineering, program management, and release engineering, to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of updates.
- Participate actively in team meetings within the product engineering department.
What you will bring :
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or possess relevant professional experience.
- Have a keen interest in open source software and its development.
- Possess intermediate knowledge of Linux and proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Ruby, and Ruby on Rails.
- Familiarity with scripting using Bash or Python, or both.
- Demonstrate strong C/C++ skills.
- Previous experience working with Git, including tasks like cherry-picking, merging, and rebasing.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with a global team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Previous involvement and active participation in open source software projects would be a significant advantage.
- Exhibit creativity, motivation, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a globally distributed team.
